Essentially a quarried aggregate that is finely graded to pass through a 40mm aperture screen together with fines, GAP40 is considered to be an immaculately clean and contaminant free material. The purpose of the added fines is that it supports rigorous compacting and results in the formation of an industrial strength layer and it is ideal for use as a base for any surface which will have individuals or vehicles across it on a regular basis.
The best part about this product is that it can be used for multiple means, you can use it as a course cover for any driveway or footpath and can also use it in the garden as a base course for hard landscaping foundations.
A general-purpose product that is excellent for use in hard landscaping and as gravel for driveways. Created from crushed greywacke rock or stone and used as metal gravel for driveways. Preparation is key prior to laying it as a driveway base. Ensure a solid depth to suit the intended traffic, spread the product and compact well. A roller is recommended for heavier traffic.
Benefits
- Industrial strength, supports a significant amount of weight and with the combination of fines once compacted forms a solid layer.
- Multipurpose. Can be used in both constructive means and landscaping, as it can be used to build pathways but also to build base course gardens.
- Naturally quarried and derived, a remarkably clean and a robust contaminant free material.
When laying bricks, pavers or cobblestones over a GAP40 base, we recommend that you spread a thin layer of paving sand over the well compacted metal before completing the job. This ensures strength and a bedding base for the cobbles, as well as supporting the products in holding together. Finally, a fine layer of dry sand should be brushed across pavers to fill in joints.
