A screened and graded limestone suitable for all landscaping designs and applications. White chip has been a popular choice as a landscaping ground cover for many years in New Zealand gardens, and more specifically in Auckland and other northern parts of the country.

Size: Screened through a 6-16mm sieve

Colour: White with a chalky outer surface on the stones when dry.

This is a naturally quarried product derived from limestone mining process within the Central North Island of New Zealand. Not pure white in colour, however when the weather is very dry, they will appear to be bright white in appearance and will have a chalky outer surface. This is a very heavy duty product and as such, it will not crush when walked or driven over.

Used largely as a decorative ground cover and around paths in landscaping, these white stones will fit perfectly into any garden. This product is sharp and coarse underfoot and therefore extra care must be taken whenever walking overtop of the product if barefooted.

Alternatively white chip is often used in courtyards or to landscape a parking area. If heavy traffic is planned on being driven over this product (a driveway for example) make sure you have prepared a suitable base like compacted GAP20 or GAP40 before laying the product. See your local building or landscaping professional if you are unsure on any preparatory work that may need to be undertaken, they will advise you on the suitability of the product for the application you are seeking.

Benefits:

  • Designing catalogue-perfect footpaths is easy by using these stones on top of compacted GAP Products.
  • Highly aesthetic and economic. When the weather is dry and warm, these small grades rocks will stand out in the garden and be bright white in appearance. However when wet, will fade to a darker cream-based colour.

It is important when laying this product to be wary of acid loving plants. Acid loving plants such as rhododendrons and camellias will begin to turn yellow as the acidity from the limestone will start to leach out into the soil. The best way to keep these acidity based mulches clean is to use a leaf blower and blast all of the detritus off of the stones. Although the acidity won’t impact the life of the flowers, the colour change can upset some individuals.

Larger screened grades are available on an enquiry basis and are more expensive.
