THE LARGEST PURE WHITE LANDSCAPING STONE AVAILABLE IN NEW ZEALAND

White Moon Rock is a large white stone, graded at 100mm to 200mm, in a clean bright white that holds its colour year after year. At this size it stops being ground cover and starts being a feature.

Nothing else in the New Zealand market comes close at this grade. If you have been looking for large white stones and settling for something smaller, this is the product you have been waiting for.

Supplied in a 20kg bag you can carry yourself, no truck, no trailer, no mess on the driveway.

Size and specification

  • Size: 100mm - 200mm graded product
  • Colour: Bright pure white with natural variation

  • Approximate volume per bag: 11 litres

Where to use large white stones

Because of its scale, White Moon Rock earns its place where a smaller stone would simply disappear:

  • Feature and focal points - a small cluster in a garden bed reads as deliberate design
  • Dry creek beds - the large white stones give the bed structure and a natural stepped look
  • Modern and Japanese-inspired gardens - clean lines, high contrast, low maintenance
  • Large pots and planters - a genuine pot topper for big containers, where 10-20mm pebbles look lost
  • Water features and pond surrounds - the white deepens and glistens when wet
  • Rockeries and garden borders - bright, defined edges that don't shift underfoot
  • Contrast planting - nothing sets off dark foliage, black mulch or corten steel like pure white stone

How White Moon Rock compares to our other white stones

We carry white stone in three grades so you can match the stone to the job:

  • Alpstone White Pearl (10-20mm) - fine white pebble for ground cover, paths and small pots
  • Alpstone White Ice (40-60mm) - medium white stone for garden beds and pathway edging
  • White Moon Rock (100-200mm) - large white stone for features, dry creek beds and statement areas

Many of our customers use two grades together - Moon Rock for the feature, White Pearl or White Ice to fill around it.

A note on laying white stone

White stone looks its best on a clean base. We strongly recommend laying weedmat underneath and pinning it down before you spread the stone. It keeps weeds out, keeps soil from staining the stone, and it is the single thing that separates a job that still looks sharp in five years from one that doesn't. It's how it has always been done, and there's a good reason for that.

As a natural quarried product, size, shape and colour will vary between individual stones.

Frequently asked questions

How big are White Moon Rock stones? Each stone is graded between 100mm and 200mm - roughly the size of a fist through to a rugby ball. This makes White Moon Rock the largest pure white landscaping stone available in New Zealand.

How many stones are in a 20kg bag? Around 5 to 8 stones, depending on the size of the individual pieces. These are large stones - a single 200mm stone is quite heavy on its own. If you need to cover an area rather than create a feature, our 1 ton bulk bag is far better value.

What area will one bag cover? Roughly 0.08m² laid as a single layer, or about 11 litres of volume. At 100-200mm, Moon Rock is a feature stone rather than a ground cover - it's designed to be placed, not spread. For covering larger areas, look at our 1 ton bulk bag, White Ice (40-60mm) or White Pearl (10-20mm).

What is the difference between White Moon Rock, White Ice and White Pearl? Size. White Pearl is 10-20mm, White Ice is 40-60mm, and White Moon Rock is 100-200mm. All three are pure white landscaping stone.

Will the stones stay white? Yes. The colour is natural, not coated or dyed, so it won't fade. Laying weedmat underneath and hosing the stones occasionally will keep them looking their best.

Can I use White Moon Rock in a water feature or pond? Yes. The white intensifies when wet, which makes it a popular choice around ponds, fountains and water features.

Can I buy White Moon Rock in a bulk bag? Yes. White Moon Rock is also available in a 1 ton bulk bag, for any area larger than a small feature, the bulk bag is significantly better value than buying 20kg bags.
